a celebration of greta’s new album, isle of ferns, at aster cafe in minneapolis. A sonic departure from her intricately tense and often dolefully sparse previous work, Isle of Ferns draws on brighter, more hopeful tones to trace intimacy and love as echoes of the divine.
while isle of ferns features lush and unexpected arrangements, greta will be performing her new songs completely acoustically.
arrive by 8:30pm to catch an opening atmospheric set by neon menhirs.

greta ruth opens for the ambient jazz and improvised trio of trumpeter Jake Baldwin, guitarist Zacc Harris and drummer Pete Hennig. the trio first came together for a casual recording session but could not find a bassist for the date. They decided to forge ahead with a more open approach, Harris leaning into heavy effects and loops with Hennig's expansive and textural drumming providing a lush sonic landscape over which Baldwin's virtuosic trumpet soars. The result was eight improvised pieces that range from ambient to avant garde. The trio will celebrate the release of Boundaries on May 30, 2024 at Icehouse. A CD or album download will be included with admission.
